When dealing with people...
Well - now that there are two of you I will just start to address you as my little crew (MLC). Due late August is the next line in the Holmes brood - Gird your loins.
Today I wanted to talk to you about people. It's a broad topic so I don't want to get too mired in the 100's of thousands of ways one could analyze a human being. I'll only advise you to read as many books as possible by the following Kundera, Hesse, Orwell, Hemingway, Huxley, Rand, Greene, Ellis, etc... They will open up your mind to interpretations in your more formidable years that will allow you the acuity to navigate the rough seas that are your fellow man.
But today - I want to talk to you about how to accept and understand people by assuming the worst from them.
People - for the most part are just highly evolved lower species animals. Meaning that they have some faculties that allow them to operate as an enlightened being but 99% of their make up is actually just either predatory or survival instincts.
With that said - when dealing with the human race try to be compassionate to the fact that they're stupid, scared, greedy, mean, and pretty much the most selfish thing on Earth. The only relationship where this actually doesn't apply for the most part is the relationship your mother and I have with you. Also the rest of your close and immediate family - for the most part, most of the time, these people are very willing to lay down all those bad habits in order to make sure you are ok first. And in turn lay the cycle - but now at your doorstep.
Aside from your family, most people want something from you. They want something in the future or to make up for the past. They want financial or physical gain, status, comfort, or just time.
You may say to yourself, "Wow! That sucks." And it does but - it doesn't have to be the end to that relationship. Realize that you are a special person. And believe me you are - all people are... or at least can be. Take what makes you special and try to understand what makes other people tick. Understand their fears, greed, and sadness. And then act how you see fit in order to strengthen that relationship. Most people are very vulnerable creatures always looking for someone else's light by which to draw their strength. Realize that you just may be that light for some people. And for those who you are not their source of light - look to be something more. Look to illuminate them even more or create a joint force. You'll find your best friends this way.
You will often find yourself getting uncontrollably mad and volatile at your fellow man. There is not a lot of value in that result. The value is truly in love. And your Dad may NOT be very good at this in practice but I at least know that it is something that is important. Like a bird who can not fly - the thought of it is not lost on his brain.
I sincerely you hope to find that level of empathy towards your fellow man. Be a beacon of hope and warmth and not a wave of ignorance and anger. You may sometimes get hurt doing this - but your life will be very full and very fun.
That's all for today - I love you MLC!
